2017 VW Golf GTI 5 Door Hatch Review

First off buy the manual the auto is great but it’s not the same driving a hot hatch in auto. Anyone that has owned or driven a GTI knows that they are an amazing car, so it comes as no surprise that the new 2017 VW Golf GTI is no different. But there is one difference, which is options. Not just the different options you can choose from VW golf range, but the options from other manufactures. The hot hatch car market is now a lot tougher with cars like the Ford Focus ST and the Renault Megane RS. Out of these 3 the golf now looks like the baby of the group. The GTI will always be the go to hot hatch it has everything you need plus plenty more the 2017 has not failed in any way it is just the same good old GTI.

The Interior

Pretty standard VW Golf trim with a lot of GTI flare I am not a fan of any of the Golf trims I feel with in a year or two they look dirty and old. But it is very comfortable and everything has that solid feel. The GTI seats hug you and keep you from rolling off the seat when you hit those corners, plus with the tartan trim it looks really good. Things like keyless entry and keyless start are great but the one touch windows on every window is probably a highlight which i hope all manufactures start to do.

The Exterior

The outside you have perfectly fitting 18″ Alloys, the GTI sports body work makes everyone no it is a GTI and it comes a bunch of little features that make it look better than the standard Golf, like twin exhaust, led fog lights, xenon headlights, daytime running lights and the GTI badge and red strip to top it off.

The Drive

It drives like a Golf GTI. The good thing with the new 2017 is they have stuck to the basics of the GTI and paid a lot of attention to the drive and handling. The drive is great, the little 2L 4 cylinder turbo intercooled engine with 169kW and 350nm of torque is plenty to get this 1.3ton pocket rocket up to speed. Everyday driving you might find the suspension a little stiff but definitely not as bad as previous models. This 6 speed Auto is beautiful and smooth and this thing just grips like no tomorrow.

Why would you buy the Golf GTI over the others?

Because its a Golf GTI man. What more do you need, it has the history, it’s proven, it’s quality and the price is right. But once you see the final price you will step back and look at your other options eg. BMW M135i.

What type of people are buying the Golf GTI?

Geeky Millennials that think they understand power to weight ratios and bitcoin ha ha. No, i think the Golf GTI has always had a very diverse audience. I think if you enjoy driving and don’t want to break the bank, the GTI is always a safe bet.
