1909 - 1919

About Abbott-Detroit

In 1909, the Abbott-Detroit luxury car emerged, led by John G. Utz, known for his work at Chalmers, Olds Motor Works, and Autocar. Their first car featured a robust Continental engine and a dedication to quality, offering a lifetime guarantee by 1913. In 1911, they aimed to produce 3000 cars, later reaching 15-20 daily by 1916. But relocating to Cleveland strained finances, leading to bankruptcy in April 1918, marking the end of a decade-long journey in American automotive history.
