Unveiled as Turkey’s first domestic mass-production passenger vehicle brand, Anadol holds a special place in the country’s automotive history. Founded by Otosan Otomobil Sanayii, Anadol’s production was based in Istanbul and spanned from 1966 to 1991. Anadol’s first model, the Anadol A1, was produced from 1966 to 1975. Notably, it was the second Turkish car ever made, following the ill-fated Devrim sedan in 1961. However, production of Anadol passenger cars was eventually discontinued in 1986. The reasons were manifold, but it marked the end of an era for Turkey’s first domestic passenger vehicle brand. Yet, the legacy of Anadol was not entirely lost. The production of the Otosan 500 Pick-Up continued until 1991, further solidifying the brand’s presence in the commercial vehicle segment. Today, Otosan has shifted its focus and now manufactures Ford Motor Company’s passenger cars and commercial vehicles. These are exported to numerous countries, particularly to member states of the European Union.
