Information about Asia Motors

Asia Motors, established in 1965 in South Korea, began by producing military vehicles and eventually diversified into SUVs, buses, and trucks. The company was notable for manufacturing the Rocsta, a jeep-like vehicle. Although Asia Motors showed potential in various automotive segments, it faced challenges complying with South Korea’s automotive industry plans in the 1970s. Acquired by Kia in 1976, Asia Motors continued operations under its umbrella until 1999 when it merged into Kia and ceased its own brand operations. The legacy of Asia Motors lives on through Kia’s continued production at the former Asia Motors plant in Gwangju.
