The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series developed by BMW’s in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. Since its inception in 1986 with the E30 M3, BMW has consistently produced M3 models for every generation of the 3 Series. Initially available in a coupé body style, a convertible variant was introduced shortly after. Over the years, M3 saloons were offered during the E36 (1994–1999) and E90 (2008–2012) generations.

In 2014, BMW rebranded the coupé and convertible models of the M3 as part of the 4 Series range, giving rise to the M4. Subsequent 3 Series variants saw the M3 predominantly produced as a saloon, until 2020 when BMW debuted an estate (Touring) version alongside the traditional saloon variant.
