The Ford GT40 Mk III was a road-going version of the GT40, produced in limited numbers for private buyers. Unlike the previous racing-focused models, the Mk III was designed with comfort and practicality in mind. It featured a detuned 4.7-liter V8 engine, producing less power than its racing counterparts, but offering a more refined driving experience suitable for road use. The Mk III had a longer rear end to accommodate a larger luggage compartment, making it more practical for everyday driving. It also featured a more luxurious interior, with improved seating, better sound insulation, and revised lighting for road use. Only seven Mk III units were ever produced, making it one of the rarest and most collectible versions of the GT40. Despite its focus on comfort, the Mk III retained much of the GT40’s performance pedigree, making it a highly desirable vehicle for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
