Information about Ineos

Ineos Automotive, a subsidiary of the British chemical giant Ineos, was established in 2016 by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe, who is also the chairman of Ineos, originally sought to buy the tooling for the Land Rover Defender from Jaguar Land Rover after its production ended. When this plan didn’t materialize, he decided to create his own off-road vehicle, which led to the development of the Ineos Grenadier. The Grenadier’s concept originated in Ratcliffe’s favorite pub, The Grenadier in Belgravia, London, where the idea was first sketched out.

The Ineos Grenadier, unveiled in 2020, is a rugged utility vehicle, reflecting a blend of traditional off-road capabilities with modern engineering. The vehicle, which began production in October 2022 at a facility in Hambach, France, is designed for durability and utility, drawing comparisons to the classic Land Rover Defender. Ineos Automotive has not confined itself to traditional internal combustion engines; it is also exploring environmentally friendly alternatives, including partnerships for hydrogen fuel cell technology and plans for an electric version of the Grenadier.

Despite the challenges, including significant financial losses in the initial years, Ineos Automotive is pushing forward with its vision. The company aims to expand its footprint in the automotive industry by diversifying its offerings, with plans for future models including the fully electric or hybrid Fusilier, scheduled for production no earlier than 2027. This expansion signifies Ineos Automotive’s commitment to combining robust vehicle performance with innovative energy solutions, positioning it as a forward-thinking player in the global automotive market.
