Iran Khodro, known initially as Iran National, is a cornerstone of Iranian automotive history, founded in 1962. It rose to prominence through its iconic model, the Paykan, which started production in 1967. The Paykan was based on the Hillman Hunter, a design licensed from the British Rootes Group, which later became part of Chrysler Europe and subsequently Peugeot. This model was the first Iranian-made car and was immensely popular until its production ceased in 2005, though a pickup version continued until 2015.

Today, Iran Khodro is the largest vehicle manufacturer in the Middle East, commanding a significant share of domestic vehicle production. It has evolved far beyond its early days, maintaining strategic partnerships with various international automakers. The company’s product line has diversified to include modern vehicles like the Peugeot models and its own creations like the Samand, which is dubbed the “New Paykan”. Despite facing challenges such as international sanctions, Iran Khodro has shown resilience, continuing to innovate and expand its influence in the automotive industry
