The Lyons car brand, better known as Jaguar, was founded by William Lyons in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company. Initially focused on motorcycle sidecars, the company evolved to create stylish car bodies for chassis made by the Standard Motor Company. The brand saw its transformation into a manufacturer of complete cars under the name SS Cars Limited, which later became Jaguar Cars Limited in 1945, shedding its pre-war associations and embracing a name that exuded speed and elegance.

The first cars released under the SS brand were the SS1 and SS2 in 1932, but the true breakthrough came with the introduction of the SS Jaguar 2.5-liter in 1935, marking the start of the Jaguar lineage. This car, known for its beautiful design and competitive pricing, set the stage for Jaguar’s reputation as a maker of desirable and high-performance vehicles.

Today, Jaguar is an integral part of Jaguar Land Rover, owned by Tata Motors since 2008.
