The Toyota Mark II, also known as Toyota Cressida in certain markets, was a compact to mid-size sedan produced by Toyota in Japan between 1968 and 2004. Initially marketed as the Toyota Corona Mark II, it was later rebranded as the Toyota Cressida in export markets. The model saw four generations under the Cressida name, with production taking place primarily at the Motomachi plant in Toyota, Aichi, Japan until 1993 and later at Toyota Motor Kyushu’s Miyata plant until 2000.
In North America, the rear-wheel-drive Cressida was succeeded by the front-wheel-drive Avalon. The Mark II/Cressida was recognized for its reliability and became a popular sedan and station wagon choice for many consumers both in Japan and internationally. The production of some models also took place in Indonesia and the Philippines under the Cressida branding.
The Toyota Mark II/Cressida served as Toyota’s mainstream sedan offering for several decades, showcasing a blend of style, comfort, and performance. As a well-regarded model in Toyota’s lineup, the Mark II/Cressida left a lasting legacy in the automotive industry.
