Volkswagen Gol G5
  • Body type:  Hatchback
  • Number of seats:  5

The Volkswagen Gol is a subcompact car that has been a prominent entry-level vehicle in the Latin American market since 1980. Succeeding the iconic Volkswagen Type 1 (Fusca) and the Volkswagen Brasilia, the Gol has been a mainstay in the region for decades. The car was also marketed in North America under variants like the Volkswagen Fox from 1987 to 1993.

Variants of the Gol include three- and five-door hatchbacks, two- and four-door sedans (known as the Volkswagen Voyage), three- and five-door station wagons (the Volkswagen Parati), and two-door coupé utilities (the Volkswagen Saveiro). These diverse options cater to a wide range of preferences in the market.

A standout achievement of the Volkswagen Gol is its impressive sales record in Brazil, where it was the best-selling car for 27 consecutive years from 1987 to 2014. The popularity of the Gol extended to Argentina as well, where it has been the most popular car since 1988. With approximately five million units produced in South America since its introduction, the Gol has clearly made a significant impact in the region.

In March 2013, Volkswagen announced that cumulative production of the Gol and its derivatives had reached a milestone of 10 million units, underscoring the enduring success and widespread acceptance of this versatile subcompact car in the Latin American market.
