The Acura EL is a subcompact executive car manufactured at Honda's Alliston, Ontario plant, making it the first Acura model to be assembled in Canada. Exclusively available in the Canadian market, the Acura EL is essentially a badge-engineered version of the Honda Civic, but with a more upscale set of features. Despite lacking a Type-S trim option, the Acura EL enjoyed significant success in terms of sales. In fact, it quickly became a major player in the market, accounting for an impressive 51% of Acura Canada's new-vehicle sales during its first full year of production. From 1997 to 2003, the Acura EL maintained its status as the best-selling Acura model in Canada.
