The Bentley 4½ Litre is a British pre-war sports racing car produced from 1927 to 1931, built during the period when the Bentley Boys were achieving considerable motorsport success at events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Powered by a 4,398 cc inline-four engine, the model was a direct development of the earlier 3 Litre and formed a core part of Bentley's competition and road-going lineup during the late 1920s. The most celebrated variant is the supercharged version, known as the "Blower Bentley," developed by Sir Henry Birkin with backing from Dorothy Paget, which used a Roots-type supercharger mounted ahead of the front axle. Although W.O. Bentley himself opposed forced induction and the supercharged cars never won Le Mans, the Blower Bentley became one of the most iconic and visually distinctive automobiles of the Vintage era, with only 55 supercharged examples built.
