Bentley Speed Six

1926 – 1930

Bentley›Speed Six

The Bentley Speed Six was a high-performance touring car produced from 1926 to 1930, built around a 6.5-litre inline six-cylinder engine tuned to deliver greater output than the standard 6.5-litre model it was derived from. It became one of the most celebrated competition cars of its era, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1929 and 1930 in the hands of Woolf Barnato and his co-drivers, cementing the reputation of the so-called Bentley Boys. The chassis was offered to coachbuilders who fitted a variety of open and closed bodywork, meaning no two examples were identical, and total production across the Speed Six run was relatively limited. A notably famous individual car is the "Blue Train" Speed Six, associated with Barnato's 1930 race against the Calais-Mediterranean Express, which became part of Bentley folklore.
