Bertone Runabout

Bertone›Runabout

The Bertone Runabout, also known as the Autobianchi A112 Runabout, is a concept car developed by Bertone and first shown at the 1969 Turin Auto Show. Designed by Bertone's Marcello Gandini, it was a small barchetta built on a transverse mid-engine layout, sharing that configuration with Gandini's more celebrated Lamborghini Miura. Its styling drew from the geometry of late-1960s racing speedboats, with a sharply pointed nose, exposed rear rollbars integrating the headlamps, and a minimalist windscreen. The platform was the Autobianchi A112, powered by a 1,116 cc four-cylinder engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The car never reached production, but it became the direct inspiration for the Fiat X1/9, which appeared in 1972.
