The 745Li was the flagship V8 long-wheelbase model for the first half of the E65 generation, using a 4.4-litre petrol V8 with Valvetronic variable valve timing producing 333 hp and 450 Nm, with a 0-100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds. It was sold from the 2001 launch through the 2005 facelift, after which the V8 range was reorganized under the 740Li and 750Li designations. The 745 badge reflected BMW's temporary adoption of a displacement-plus-output naming convention rather than direct engine displacement.
