The X6 ActiveHybrid paired BMW's twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with two electric motors to produce a combined 485 hp and 600 Nm, making it one of the first hybrid vehicles in the luxury SAC segment. The system drew on technology developed with GM under the Global Hybrid Cooperation and used a two-mode transmission to deliver a 0-100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds. Production ran from 2008 to 2012, and the hybrid powertrain added considerable weight relative to the combustion-only variants despite the efficiency ambitions.
