The X6 ActiveHybrid paired a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine with two electric motors to produce a combined 485 hp and 600 Nm, making it one of the first performance-oriented hybrid SUVs on the market. The system drew on technology developed with BMW's Formula 1 KERS program and allowed electric-only operation at low speeds. Sprint to 100 km/h took 5.6 seconds despite the hybrid powertrain's added weight.
