Bristol Blenheim S2

1994 – 1998 · Great Britain

Bicester Aerodrome, previously RAF Bicester, is a private airfield located near the English town of Bicester in Oxfordshire. Dating back to 1916, it holds historical significance as the site of the maiden flight of the prototype Handley Page Halifax in 1939. Initially serving as a military airfield, RAF Bicester was utilized by the Royal Air Force until 2004. As per Historic England, Bicester Aerodrome is recognized as "the most complete and strongly representative example of an RAF airbase from the interwar expansion," developed as a bomber station during the 1920s Home Defence Expansion Scheme. The airfield spans 400 acres of well-drained short-mown grass encompassing two grass runways measuring 650 m (2,133 ft) and 790 m (2,592 ft) in length. Pilots navigating the airfield must be cautious as the surface can be uneven in spots, a result of field drains collapsing over time. Key Points: 1.
