The Buick Skyhawk is a car model produced by Buick in two generations spanning from 1975 to 1989. The first generation, which was in production from 1975 to 1980, featured two-door hatchbacks built on the subcompact, rear-wheel drive H-body platform. The design was essentially a badge-engineered version of the Chevrolet Monza, with the only engine option being a V6. This generation marked a new direction for Buick and General Motors, as they entered the subcompact market segment with the Skyhawk. Similar approaches were also taken by Oldsmobile with the Starfire hatchback during the same period. In contrast, the second generation of the Buick Skyhawk (1982–1989) shifted to the compact, front-wheel drive J-car platform. These later models were available in four body styles: two-door sedan and hatchback, as well as four-door sedan and station wagon. The vehicles were manufactured alongside other rebadged variants from General Motors, such as the Chevrolet Cavalier, Cadillac Cimarron, Oldsmobile Firenza, and Pontiac J2000/2000/Sunbird, at GM's South Gate Assembly and Janesville Assembly plants.
