The name "Corvair" was initially used in 1954 for a Corvette-based concept car featuring a hardtop fastback-styled roof that was part of the Motorama exhibition. The key distinguishing feature of the Corvair was its rear-mounted engine and air-cooled system, which set it apart from traditional American cars of that era.
