The eighth generation of the Chevrolet Suburban, based on the GMT400 platform, was launched in December 1991 for the 1992 model year. This generation was closely related to the C/K pickup series which had transitioned to the newer platform in 1987. The Suburban and its derivatives were available in both 2WD and 4WD versions, identified as "C" and "K" respectively. The lineup included half-ton and three-quarter-ton models designated as "1500" and "2500" respectively. A significant aspect of this generation of the Suburban was the use of the small-block 5.7-liter V8 engine as the standard powertrain across all variants.
