The Chrysler LeBaron, known as the Imperial LeBaron during certain periods, was a line of luxury automobiles produced by Chrysler between 1931 and 1941, and then from 1955 to 1995. Initially introduced in 1931, the LeBaron model was distinguished by its high-end design, which placed it in competition with luxury cars like Lincoln and Packard. In 1955, Chrysler acquired LeBaron along with its parent company, Briggs Manufacturing, and subsequently launched the Imperial brand. Vehicles were sold under the Imperial LeBaron name until 1975, when Chrysler ceased production of the Imperial line and reintroduced the Chrysler LeBaron as its entry-level model in 1977. Over the years, the Chrysler Division released different versions of the LeBaron, including: - 1977–1981 M-body LeBaron: Available as a sedan, coupe, and wagon - 1982–1988 K-body LeBaron: Offered as a sedan, coupe, convertible, and wagon - 1985–1989 H-body LeBaron GTS: Presented as a hatchback model - 1987–1995 J-body LeBaron: Released as a coupe and convertible - 1990–1994 AA-body LeBaron: Produced as a sedan The Chrysler LeBaron was eventually discontinued in 1995, making way for newer models like the Cirrus and Sebring.
