Daimler Sovereign

1966 – 1983

Daimler›Sovereign

The Daimler Sovereign was a luxury saloon produced from 1966 to 1983, serving as the prestige-badged Daimler counterpart to the Jaguar XJ6. Built on the same platform and sharing the same bodyshell as the XJ, the Sovereign distinguished itself through traditional Daimler touches including a fluted grille, specific interior trim, and a higher standard of cabin finish. The XJ6-based Sovereign generation, running from 1969 through 1986, encompassed both Series I, Series II, and Series III body iterations and was available with Jaguar's 2.8-litre and 4.2-litre XK straight-six engines across its production life. A long-wheelbase variant offered additional rear passenger space, and a Vanden Plas derivative sat at the top of the range with further bespoke interior appointments.
