The Fiat Ritmo, a front-engine, front-wheel drive family car, was manufactured by Fiat and launched in April 1978 at the Turin Motor show. Offered in 3- and 5-door hatchback and cabriolet body styles, the Ritmo was in production from 1978 to 1988 and underwent two facelifts during its lifespan. Export versions for the UK, US, and Canada were marketed as the Strada. The SEAT Ritmo production started in Spain in 1979, with a facelift in 1982 leading to the SEAT Ronda. The Ritmo was styled by Sergio Sartorelli at Fiat's Centro Stile in Turin, drawing inspiration from the Italian word "rhythm", while the Strada name derived from the Italian word "road". Total production reached 1,790,000 units, with manufacturing ending in early 1988, being succeeded by the Fiat Tipo. Designed by Fiat in 1972 as a replacement for the 128 sedan, the Ritmo followed the trend of small family hatchbacks in Europe. It aimed to compete with established models like the Volkswagen Golf, offering a compact yet practical choice for families seeking a versatile vehicle. In summary, the Fiat Ritmo was a compact and versatile family car that gained popularity with its hatchback and cabriolet body styles, serving as a successor to the 128 sedan and paving the way for future Fiat models like the Tipo.
