The GAZ-31029 Volga was produced by the Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod (GAZ) from 1992 to 1997 as part of the Volga line of cars. This model was developed as a temporary solution due to delays in creating successors to the GAZ-24-10 and other derivatives. The production of the GAZ-3103/3104/3105 family was experiencing setbacks, leading to the need for an interim vehicle. The GAZ-31029 was introduced to address the gap in the market while the development of newer models was ongoing. The decision to produce this model was also influenced by the worn-out stamping presses used for the GAZ-24-10.
