The Honda Inspire is a mid-size sedan that was originally launched in late 1989 as the Accord Inspire, in conjunction with the Honda Vigor. Marketed under different retail channels in Japan - the Vigor/Saber under Honda Verno and the Inspire at Honda Clio stores - the Inspire was subsequently updated in 1995 and exported to the US as the Acura 3.2 TL. During this update, the Vigor nameplate was replaced with the Honda Saber, retaining the longitudinal 2.5L straight-five engine layout. The Acura 2.5 TL was also offered with this engine configuration. In 1999, the first generation of these cars was replaced by the second generation TL, which used the US-spec Accord platform and was largely designed and engineered by Honda R&D Americas, Inc.
