The XJ6 Series 2 was produced from 1973 to 1979, representing Jaguar's first significant revision of the original XJ6 platform introduced in 1968. It carried over the well-regarded 4.2-litre XK inline-six engine while incorporating federally mandated changes including a raised front bumper line and revised grille to meet US safety and emissions regulations, alterations that drew some criticism for compromising the purity of William Lyons's original design. A 3.4-litre six-cylinder option remained available in certain markets, broadening the range's appeal. The Series 2 also saw the XJ12 variant continue alongside it, sharing the same bodyshell with Jaguar's V12 engine, and the longer-wheelbase XJ6L became an established part of the lineup to meet demand for greater rear passenger space.
