Jaguar XKSS

1957

The Jaguar XKSS is a road-legal sports car produced in 1957, derived directly from the Le Mans-winning D-Type racing car. Jaguar converted a batch of unsold D-Types into street-usable form by adding a windscreen, hood, passenger door, and basic road equipment, resulting in just 16 cars completed before a factory fire at Browns Lane destroyed nine further examples awaiting conversion. The car retains the D-Type's 3.4-litre straight-six engine and tubular subframe construction, making it one of the most direct translations of a racing machine to road use in automotive history. In 2016, Jaguar's in-house Classic division completed the nine fire-destroyed cars using original specifications, designating them as factory-continuation examples rather than replicas.
