Liberty

The Liberty Motor Car Company, founded in Detroit in 1916, quickly became known for its medium-priced, reliable vehicles. The brainchild of Percy Owen, the company's president, and R.E. Cole, its chief engineer, Liberty Motor initially produced cars at a factory previously owned by R.C.H. Automobile. The brand's inaugural model was the Liberty Six, a car that featured a 3394 cc engine, available in both open and closed body styles. By 1921, amidst a rapidly growing market, the company had produced nearly 37,000 units of the Liberty Six. However, the expansion combined with the economic downturn of the early 1920s led to financial difficulties. Despite an attempt to reorganize under receivership, Liberty Motor Car Company was acquired by Columbia Motors in 1923, which itself failed a year later, marking the end of the Liberty brand's brief but impactful run in the automotive industry.
