The Mercedes-Benz GLS, a full-size luxury crossover SUV, has been in production since 2006. It features a three-row, seven-passenger configuration and is positioned above the GLE in Mercedes-Benz's SUV lineup. Considered the flagship of Mercedes-Benz's SUV range, the GLS competes with the more off-road-oriented G-Class in terms of luxury and size. Despite the G-Class being in production longer, the GLS is a key player in the Mercedes-Benz SUV lineup. Sharing a unibody architecture with the GLE, the GLS is predominantly assembled at the Mercedes plant in Alabama, with only a small number of early models being manufactured in Germany. The first-generation GLS, known as the X164 model,
