The Mazda MX-6 is a front-engine, front-wheel-drive coupé that was produced by Mazda between 1987 and 1997. It was built on the GD platform between 1988 and 1992 for the first generation, and on the GE platform from 1993 to 1997 for the second generation. Mechanically similar to the Ford Probe, the Mazda MX-6 shared its platform with other models such as the Capella/626 and the Ford Telstar. Despite replacing the 626 Coupé, the MX-6 maintained the same chassis. Manufacturing of the MX-6, along with its platform-sharing counterparts - the 626 and Ford Probe - took place at joint-venture plants in the United States and Japan. AutoAlliance in Flat Rock, Michigan produced these cars for the North American market, while Mazda Japan manufactured them for distribution in Asian and European markets. The first-generation MX-6 was introduced in 1987 and remained in production until 1992 in the United States. It offered sporty and stylish design elements coupled with front-wheel-drive performance.
