The Mazda Carol is a kei car produced by Mazda in two distinct eras. The original Carol was manufactured between 1962 and 1970. Fast forward to 1989, Mazda reintroduced the Carol under the Autozam brand. Since then, the Carol has been essentially a rebadged model made by Suzuki for Mazda. The modern-era Carols, starting from 1989, are based on the Suzuki Alto. Initially, the Carol had unique bodywork for the first two generations in the modern era. However, starting from late 1998, the Carol has been more of a badging exercise with no unique bodywork. The revival of the Carol nameplate coincided with Mazda's venture into the kei car market
