Mazda Etude BF

1987 – 1989 · Japan

The Mazda Étude was a unique three-door hatchback coupé version of the fifth-generation Familia that was exclusively sold in Japan from 1987 to 1989. Its design resembled the 323/Familia, featuring a longer body and a lower roofline, giving it a more stylish and suave look. Marketed as a "personal coupé," the Étude boasted a range of premium features such as a sliding sunroof, two-tone paint, power steering, power windows, and a suspension tuned for comfort. One of the distinct design elements of the Étude was the blacked-out B- and C-pillars, along with a flush greenhouse surface, which set it apart from the more conventional sedans in the Familia lineup. This design touch added to the overall sporty and modern appeal of the car. Although the Mazda Étude was only available for a short period in Japan, its legacy continued in South Africa where the name was later used for the sixth generation Familia. The model proved to be a popular choice for those seeking a blend of style and comfort in a compact package. Key Points: 1.
