The Mazda Demio, known as the Mazda2 outside of Japan, is a subcompact/supermini/B-segment small car that has been in production since 1996. Initially sold in Japan under the Demio nameplate, Mazda later switched to using "Mazda2" for all markets, including in Japan as of 2019. The Demio is built on the Mazda D platform, which also underpinned earlier models like the Ford Festiva and the Revue. The name "Demio" is derived from Latin, meaning "belonging to me," which reflects the car's personalized and possessive appeal. The third generation Demio was recognized as a top three finalist in the prestigious World Car Awards, ultimately winning
