Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sendirian Berhad (Perodua) is Malaysia's largest car manufacturer, founded in 1993 with the launch of its first 5-door hatchback, the Perodua Kancil, in August 1994. The codename 'M2' was used during the project's top-secret phase. Initially focusing on minicars and superminis, Perodua did not have models competing in the same market segments as Proton Holdings. Over time, their market segments have begun to overlap with Proton's, notably in the super-compact segment where the Perodua Myvi competes with the Proton Iriz after successfully challenging the Proton Savvy.
