The Pontiac LeMans is a model of cars marketed by Pontiac, named after the French city of Le Mans, known for the 24 Hours of Le Mans sports car race. Originally introduced as a trim upgrade package based on the Tempest in 1961, the LeMans later evolved into a separate model in 1963. The LeMans underwent several generations between 1961 and 1981, with the initial generations being rear-wheel drive (RWD) domestic cars. The first generation was a compact model, and subsequent generations (2-5) were classified as intermediates. The model continued until 1983 in Canada. After a hiatus, Pontiac revived the LeMans name for a sixth generation from 1988 to 1993.
