The Proton Putra, a front-wheel-drive sports coupe produced by Malaysian car manufacturer Proton, was introduced in late 1996 and ceased production in 2001. However, a limited relaunch occurred in 2004 in Malaysia to clear remaining factory stocks. The name "Putra" translates to "son" or "prince" in Malay. The car is equipped with a Mitsubishi 4G93P DOHC engine, with the "P" signifying Proton's involvement. In regions like the United Kingdom and Australia, the Putra was marketed under the names Proton Coupé or Proton M21. Despite this, sales were lackluster due to its perceived unexciting design, being likened to
