The Proton Saga, a series of subcompact and city cars, is a proud creation of the Malaysian automaker Proton. Its debut in 1985 marked a significant milestone in Malaysia's automotive sector as the country's inaugural locally-produced vehicle. The Saga has since maintained its position as Proton's most enduring and top-selling model, boasting a remarkable 1.9 million units sold globally during its 37-year lifespan from 1985 to 2022. The initial generation of the Proton Saga emerged through a collaborative effort between HICOM and Mitsubishi Motors. This iteration was crafted on the foundation of the second-generation Mitsubishi Lancer Fiore platform and was offered in both 4-door saloon and 5-door hatchback versions.
