Railton

Railton, a marque not widely known outside enthusiast circles, holds a unique place in automotive history, distinguished by its blend of innovation and luxury. Founded in 1933 by Reid Railton, the brand emerged from the ambitious vision of its creator, an engineer whose designs broke speed records on land and water. Railton's cars were based on the robust and reliable chassis of the Hudson Terraplane, outfitted with bespoke, luxurious bodies crafted by coachbuilders like Coachcraft of London. The original Railton cars quickly became synonymous with high performance and elegance, setting them apart in a competitive era. After fading into obscurity post-World War II, the Railton name experienced a brief revival in the late 1980s and mid-1990s, aiming to recapture the glamour and mechanical excellence of its heyday. Today, while the company does not produce new vehicles, Railton remains a symbol of a bygone era of motoring excellence. Its legacy is preserved through the dedication of classic car enthusiasts and collectors who celebrate the brand's historical significance and its contributions to the automotive landscape. The story of Railton is a testament to a brand that, despite its challenges, continues to inspire admiration for its pursuit of automotive perfection.
