The Rover 800 series, an executive car produced by the Austin Rover Group and later by the Rover Group from 1986 to 1999, was marketed as the Sterling in the United States. Co-developed with Honda, it shared similarities with the Honda Legend and succeeded the decade-old Rover SD1 model. The collaboration with Honda stemmed from the success of the Triumph Acclaim, the first project resulting from the BL-Honda alliance. Following the Triumph Acclaim's launch, the companies strategized future joint ventures, eventually leading to the development of the Rover 800 series.
