The Austin Montego is a British family car manufactured by British Leyland (later Rover Group) from 1984 to 1995. It was designed to replace both the Morris Ital and the Austin Ambassador to compete with popular models like the Ford Sierra and Vauxhall Cavalier. Initially launched under both the Austin and MG brands, the Montego marked the end of the Austin marque upon its release. Development for the Montego began in 1977 as part of project LC10 to succeed the Morris Marina and Princess ranges, but it took seven years before the car was finally introduced in the market. During this time, the Marina was refreshed and rebranded as the Morris Ital, and the Princess was updated as the Austin Ambassador in 198
