Subaru Leone A21

1971 – 1981 · Japan

The Subaru Leone was a compact car manufactured by Subaru from 1971 to 1994. The name "Leone" is Italian for lion, symbolizing strength and power. It served as a replacement for the Subaru 1000 and laid the foundation for the iconic Subaru Impreza. Throughout its production run, all Subaru Leones were powered by the Subaru EA boxer engine, known for its reliability and efficiency. One of the key features of the Subaru Leone was its optional four-wheel-drive system, making it a capable and versatile vehicle, particularly in challenging road conditions. This feature appealed to drivers looking for enhanced traction and stability, especially in adverse weather or off-road scenarios. The Subaru Leone's compact size made it a popular choice for urban commuters and families seeking a reliable and fuel-efficient vehicle. Its simple yet functional design, coupled with Subaru's reputation for producing durable cars, contributed to the longevity of the model's production. Overall, the Subaru Leone's legacy lives on through its successor, the Subaru Impreza, which continued to embody the brand's commitment to performance, safety, and innovation. The Leone's impact on Subaru's lineup helped shape the brand's identity and solidified its position in the compact car segment.
