1983 – 1987 · Japan

The Toyota Corolla E80, produced from 1983 to 1987, was the fifth generation of Corolla cars by Toyota. Approximately 3.3 million units were manufactured with most models featuring a front-wheel-drive layout. The AE85 and AE86 Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno maintained rear-wheel drive, offering continuity from the previous generation. The three-door "liftback", three-door van, and five-door wagon models were also carried over from the E70 generation. Among these, the AE86 gained recognition internationally in drifting and achieved popularity in various racing categories including Showroom Stock, Group A, Group N, Rally, and Club racing. Furthermore, in collaboration with General Motors, modified versions of the front-wheel drive AE82 sedan and liftback were produced under the Chevrolet Nova name for the US market. This joint venture allowed for the E80 models to expand their reach and presence in the American automotive market. The Toyota Corolla E80 series offered a diverse range of models catering to different needs and preferences, while also incorporating advancements in design and performance. Overall, the E80 generation of Toyota Corolla showcased a blend of reliability, versatility, and sportiness that left a lasting impact on the automotive industry during its production years.
