Triumph Spitfire Mark III

1967 – 1970 · Great Britain

The Triumph Spitfire, a classic British sports car, was produced in five iterations from 1962 to 1980. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti in 1957 for Standard-Triumph, it made its debut at the 1962 London Motor Show. The Spitfire was manufactured at the Standard-Triumph Canley works, with a total production of around 315,000 units during its 18-year run. Based on a shortened version of the Triumph Herald saloon's chassis, the Spitfire utilized the Herald's running gear and Standard SC engine. The car featured body-on-frame construction with additional structural elements integrated into the bodywork and rear trailing arms connected to the body rather than the chassis. Key Points: 1.
