Volkswagen Santana

1981 – 2022 · GERMANY

The Volkswagen Santana is a versatile model that has been offered as both a sedan and station wagon under the Volkswagen nameplate since 1983. The initial iteration of the Santana was designed based on the second-generation Volkswagen Passat (B2) and first appeared in 1981. Although the vehicle was introduced in 1981, production specifically for the Chinese market did not commence until 1983. Notably, Volkswagen opted to utilize the "Santana" name instead of the "Passat" label for this particular model, drawing parallels to the unique naming conventions seen with other Volkswagen models such as the Polo (known as the Derby in its sedan version) and the Golf (commonly referred to as the Jetta in its sedan variant).
