This drag strip in Great Bend, Kansas was built on a decommissioned World War Two B-29 airfield and opened in the early 1950s through the efforts of the Sunflower Rod and Custom Association car club, which still runs it today. It holds the distinction of hosting the first ever NHRA National event in 1955, drawing 219 cars and about 15,000 spectators, and it underwent a major resurfacing with a relocated starting line and new timing tower completed in 2026.
