Sick of algorithms feeding him chaos instead of cars, this founder built his own social network

11 August 2026

ADELAIDE, Australia, 11 August 2026: Open almost any social network today and your timeline is full of arguments, politics and bad news whether you asked for it or not. Drivesome (drivesome.com) is the opposite: a social network about one thing only, cars, with nothing else in the timeline.

"I got sick of opening an app and feeling worse than when I started," said Marcus Newark, founder of Drivesome. "Fear, drama, arguments, all of it dressed up as news. I just wanted to look at cars. Cars make me happy, and I could not find one place online that was only that. So I built it."

Drivesome is an independent platform going up against networks with thousands of engineers behind them, and Newark says that is exactly why there is room for it. "The big platforms will never build this, because drama is what keeps people scrolling and that is how they get paid," he said. "I do not need you angry. I need you to see a car you love and have a good day."

The platform is built around the cars themselves. Every post can be linked to the exact car it features, right down to the generation and badge, and those posts collect on that car's own page. Drivesome holds nearly 18,000 cars, and its Car Vision AI identifies the car in a photo and suggests the tag automatically, so members find each other through the car they own rather than through an algorithm.

Around that sits the rest of car culture. Drivesome lists more than 800 events worldwide, from cars and coffee mornings to shows, track days and cruises, with registrations, ticketing and QR code check-in for organisers. More than 1,200 car clubs have pages ready to claim, with management tools that are free for life for founding clubs. Members can also enter Virtual Car Shows, online shows where the community votes for its favourites, so a car can win its class without ever leaving the garage.

Drivesome was founded by Marcus Newark in Adelaide, Australia. It is free to join at drivesome.com, with apps on the App Store and Google Play.
