The third generation of the B5, it is based on the BMW 5 Series (G30) and is available in both saloon and wagon bodystyles. The B5 model is derived from the BMW M550i and uses a modified 4.4-liter N63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine known as the N63TU2. Noteworthy modifications to the engine include a redesigned cold air intake system, cooling system, higher compression Mahle pistons, twin-scroll Garrett turbochargers, a larger intercooler, new NGK spark plugs, and an Alpina-specific ECU.
