Alvis, an iconic automotive brand renowned for its timeless elegance and impeccable craftsmanship, has left an indelible mark on the history of British motoring. Founded in 1919 by T.G. John and G.P.H de Freville, Alvis had humble beginnings as a manufacturer of motor vehicle engines before venturing into car production. The first car to bear the Alvis name rolled off the production line in 1920 - a milestone that signaled the beginning of their illustrious journey. With pioneering engineering and exceptional performance capabilities, this initial offering set the tone for what was to come from this visionary brand. Throughout its existence, Alvis created several notable models that captivated enthusiasts worldwide. However, none could match the popularity attained by their remarkable Speed models introduced in the late 1920s. Celebrated for their sleek designs and exhilarating speed capabilities, these race-inspired machines cemented Alvis' reputation as a purveyor of automotive excellence. As time progressed, so did innovation within Alvis’ factories – pushing boundaries with advancements such as independent front suspension systems long before they became commonplace among competitors. This dedication to progress yielded substantial growth for years until declining sales triggered financial difficulties leading up to eventual closure during those tumultuous times at end-1967. Despite pausing operations nearly half a century ago, Alivs still evokes fond memories amongst automobile aficionados who hold surviving examples dearer than ever before—it's believed there are still gatherings organized globally wherein admirers share stories about incredible journeys aboard one or another vintage piece imbued with fascinating stories behind them!
